[Framers] Spelling bee champs out there?

OK, working on a document where the word "height" is used frequently (object
modeling software app.) Framemaker 12 keeps flagging this as a misspelled
word - say what? I have tried to add it to a Dictionary, make it allow the
word, learn the word, and no joy. It keeps barfing on me w/ the message
that I first must Deselect the corresponding Find setting in the Spelling
Checker Options dialog box.

OK, I will admit - in all my years of working w/ FM, I have never seen this
message before and why FM keeps throwing up on a correctly spelled word is
beyond me. Where is this Spelling Checker Options dialog box and why this
message?

Thanks!

In earlier versions you could edit the site.dict file.

According to the Adobe forums (https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1148638):
In later versions, the Adobe dictionaries are located in a Linguistics
folder. The exact location varies depending upon the O/S, but in Windows
the Linguistics files can be found at any of these locations depending
upon your operating system and installation location (typically drive
C:, but can vary):
\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Linguistics
\Documents and Settings\username\Application
Data\Adobe\Linguistics
\users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Linguistics
That said, I was not able to find a dictionary file (as such) in any of
these folders.

This is the only flagged word in my files that I cannot Allow in document,
Learn, etc. Every other flagged word, be it tooltip, etc. I can either
Learn, Allow, or Add to Dictionary w/out any issues whatsoever and no
changes at all in the Spelling checker Options - all set to default - as it
has been for me since the cows came home w/ FM. This is driving me batty -
if anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate it. (I can't believe it, but
yet I can, that FM would be buggy for this one word!)

FWIW, like Grant, I came up w/ nada, zip, zilch when trying to find a
dictionary in any of the mentioned folders.

Thanks!

Maybe it's just FrameMaker being a bit more human. I have a few words that I can't abide. Such as 'deal' ;-)

To be sensible for a moment (why?), is there any possibility that your source document has been compiled from some cut and paste operation that has resulted in each instance of the problem word containing, say, hidden characters?

I ask because whenever I work on a document with a lot of repetition, I use a text expander instead of endlessly typing, say, antidisestablishmentarianism or whatever, and if the source word in the expander somehow has cruft in it, you get that cruft in every instance of the word. I have also programmed the expander with my all favorite typos: maybe your author got sick of typing 'hieght' and then correcting it?

Just a thought... Other than that, maybe try a reinstall of FrameMaker? But odds on it's a problem with the document rather than with the app.

Nope, no cut and paste. Original text only. I am the author. And it is the
app as it is flagged in other documents as well.

Tammy,
I just copied your mail-text into a new document of FM-12.0.4.445 and did not get a

My Frame 2017 doesn't flag the word height as misspelled. It did, however,
when I had it in quotes. Does your Frame flag the word as misspelled even

Yep, that’s what I have. And yes, the dictionary files are indeed a mess.
At this point, unless anyone knows how to use a hammer and duct tape on a
dictionary in FM, I am living w/ it until it gets to be too much.

OK, so I have NEVER, EVER touched any of the dictionary files after installing FM 12 on Windows 10 - and a couple of nice folks offlist confirmed that it is my dictionary files that are somehow screwed up. Short of uninstalling and reinstalling FM 12 (which will be a cold day in you know what before I do), does anyone have any ideas about how to repair a corrupt dictionary file? Because now another word, genome, is also not having fun in my world. GRRRR. . .

Yes, it does, even if it is not in quotes.

My Frame 2017 doesn't flag the word height as misspelled. It did, however, when I had it in quotes. Does your Frame flag the word as misspelled even if it's not in quotes?

Might you have a backup solution that keeps backups for long enough
that you could peruse the backups for a dictionary file old enough to
pre-date when the troubles started?
