Discussion:
[Framers] Framemaker Crashing

I am working on a new 64 bit computer with Frame 2019 and up to date on patches. This computer was upgrade to 18 Gb of RAM hoping it would resolve the problem I had with my previous computer which had half the RAM. When I'm working in Frame for an hour after I have just logged in, suddenly, the screen deteriorates and doesn't shut down, but eventually freezes. I close completely out of Framemaker and reopen and it's doing it again. The screen looks every bizarre with text missing and doubling of text, etc.

Does anyone know what is going on? I had this problem with Frame 15, but not as much, and I could resolve it by just shutting Frame down and either rebooting or reopening Frame. This is happening repeatedly making it hard to get anything done.

We store the files we work with on a server on the local network. We had
this problem repeatedly when antivirus software that snooped on all
network communication to and from our PCs interfered.

And the operating system is... ?

Does Ctrl-l (refresh) clear the display weirdness, or it persists?

" The screen looks every bizarre with text missing and doubling of text, etc."

Could be video driver incompatibility/out of date causing the crashes.

I haven't upgraded to FM 2019 yet. Still using FM 2017. Personally, I've noticed that under Windows 10 64-bit, with 32GB of RAM, FM 2017 crashes much more frequently than FM 12. I can use the latter with nary a crash, but FM 2017 crashes several times a day.

<sadly> I remember when one of Frame's biggest selling points was its
rock-solid stability, unlike Word.

From my ancient past, I recall one occasion after installing memory when my
PC became erratic. That turned out to have been caused by my inadvertantly
disturbing some of the hardware components. After I firmly re-seated them
all, the problem disappeared. So, just a wild thought.

Are your working files local or on the network?
And does the screen refresh, Ctrl-l, clear the screen garbage?

Only thing that comes to mind is to check the video drivers, to make sure
they're up to date.
